A couple of days ago Linus Torvalds has announced the 7th RC of kernel version 3.16. Linus is happier with this release than he was with the previous one. There was a couple of awkward bugs in that state of release cycle. However one of the most serious among them turned out not to be a bug in the kernel but in GCC compiler (gcc-4.9 is a buggy piece of shit, Bug 61904 – Incorrect stack red-zoning on x86-64 code generation).
In the meantime Debian developers are discussing about which kernel to use in their upcoming Debian 8.0 Jessie. They’re hesitating between kernel version 3.14 (longterm supported by Greg Kroah-Hartman) and 3.16 (supported by Ubuntu kernel team). More info about it here.
Another interesting news is that FFmpeg might come back to Debian. Read more about it here.
